I certainly made a good decision to stay behind today. I was able to get up later and have a leisurely breakfast. What was also interesting about this hotel was that if you sat outside and had breakfast, which I did, the seagulls and pigeons with swoop down and try to take your food. At one point I had gone into get another cup of coffee and the waiter at the hotel had suggested that I not do that without having somebody watch the table to keep the seagulls and pigeons away. It was interesting.
I made my way down to the seashore to a small chapel named after St. James. I went to the 9 o’clock mass. It was in Croatian and I have to say it was very difficult to follow. One thing I will say is that the priest even though he was speaking in Croatian I could tell by the length of his sermon that like American priest he like to hear himself talk.
After mass I walk to the beach and I found a café that was right there on the beach. The beach is not the same as we would know it. It was actually a concrete wall with steps that went down into the water. I picked a table that was well covered by an umbrella. I added a cup of coffee and proceeded to sit there for the next five hours. I was watching old people young people, families, little kids, and big kids splash around in the water and enjoy the clear blue Adriatic Sea. After all the moving we have done this was the most relaxing way to spend my morning.
I walked the whole length of the beach looking at the shops and watching the people along the coastline. Two piece bathing suit‘s fit and come in all sizes as do speedo bathing suits for men. I wouldn’t be caught dead. They shouldn’t even make speedo bathing suits in a size bigger than 32. Although I am sure that many of those people are wearing bathing suits that are size 32. Disgusting!, But they are having fun.
After covering much of the coast line it got to be about 230 and it was time to have some lunch. I walk down into the town and found a little Italian bistro name Trattoria Basilico . It was a great little place. I ordered a mushroom pizza and it was easily one of the best mushroom pizzas I have ever had. Since it was so hot I really was best just sitting back and relaxing and taking my time with lunch. I got back to the hotel about four and gladly laid down and took a nap in my air-conditioned room. The temperatures have been consistently in the 90s with high humidity.
Once my nap was over, I continue to walk around this beautiful coastal community. The architecture was beautiful and many of the buildings had once been villas for wealthy people from the Austria Hungarian empire. It must’ve been a wonderful place in its day. It certainly is beautiful now. I was too full to eat dinner so I actually grabbed a pastry at the local bakery and took it back to my little balcony and I sat and watch the world go by until it was time to go to bed.
Everybody else went on a tour just some hill villages. Much of the tour sent it around alcohol and that just doesn’t work for me. If you’re going to put us up in a beautiful seaside village you really need to give us time to enjoy it. I was glad I took the day and I found a place that I would love to go back to and spend more time. We’re off again early in the morning tomorrow to go to the home of our beloved first lady Melania Trump. We’re going to Ljubljana, Slovenia. Til then,
