Leaving Paris is always bittersweet. I get to the point where I had enough of it but yet it’s just such a beautiful city. There’s something about it that says I could stay there forever but I am definitely glad to be moving on.
Getting up this morning was a little difficult. I have to say the apartment and it’s bed are very comfortable. It’s very small but it had everything I needed. I had packed most everything the night before and I got up in time so I could put all my travel documents in order. I wish I put the travel documents in order another time. I could not find my Eurail pass. This caused me great anxiety. I need to have that and my ticket together in order to stay on the train.
I went to the train station and try to talk to the people there. Nobody was going to help me and they wanted me to buy A full price ticket for my trip to Munich. The full price cost of a ticket to Munich was more than the cost of the pass. Finally I spoke with one woman who was really great. She advised me to get on the train and if I had to I could always pay for the ticket on the train. She said they had nobody there at her office who could help me but wait till I get to Germany.
I did is she advised and got on the train. When the Conductor asked for my ticket, I handed her what I had and she asked for my pass. I explained that I lost it and I wasn’t sure what to do. She yelled at me a bit and scolded me for getting on the train without the proper documents but she told me that she wasn’t going to charge me for the ticket but I had to buy a new ticket when I got to Stuttgart, Germany.
Arriving in Stuttgart I am mediately went to the office and spoke to a Clerk there. He directed me to a colleague who sold me the new train pass. This meant that all of my tickets that I had in my possession we’re all going to be honored. This was such good news. I prayed to Saint Anthony and the Holy Spirit and they came through.
Finally arriving in Munich, my hotel was right near the train station and it worked out great. I checked in easily but was very dismayed to find out that my hotel room which was on the top floor had no air-conditioning. The temperature outside was around 100° and the temperature in the room was around 105°. It was positively miserable. They supplied me with the fan and said that was the best they could do. If I want to move to another hotel they could not refund my money so it looks like I was going to sleep in a puddle of sweat and the two next nights.
It has been an emotional day and a difficult one. The heat certainly didn’t help. I decided to stay around Hotel To eat. I went to a Thai restaurant and sat outside and watched the people in the neighborhood go about their business. A German woman came and sat next to me and we began to our conversation. She one time lived in Phoenix Arizona and now she’s back home. We talked a lot about the weather and climate change and also about the state of politics in both Germany end of the United States. She was way to the left So we get along just great. The neighborhood was very racially mixed. Lots of Arabic speaking people and people from Iran. Really interesting!
Time for bed. Everything I anticipated about the heat in the room came to be. Finally about 3 o’clock in the morning the room started To cool down. I slept for a couple of hours and then was up a new day is dawning it.
