I have already done this once today. It got lost and I have no idea where it went. So here it goes again.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many traveling people as I have over the last 24 hours. Logan airport was jammed with people more than I had ever seen it. My flight left on time and then arrived early. I even had an opportunity to get about 3 1/2 hours sleep. It was great.
As soon as I got off the plane I went through immigration which everything was computerized and I was through it in less than 10 minutes the United States should take a look at a program like this. I went right to the Piccadilly tube station and that got me right to Kings Cross station so that I could catch my train to Paris. I was in Kings Cross in an hour and ready to get on that next train. The station like the airport was mobbed. It was difficult to move around. They were an off a lot of groups of kids. Once they announced my train it was at least 45 minutes going through security and then to immigration. The first sign of Brexit were here as I had to go through immigration in the UK and immigration in France. It took forever.
The train ride was smooth and quick and in two hours I was in Paris. Once in Paris I grab the taxi and made my way to my accommodations. It’s a small apartment and a large building with the courtyard. When you think courtyards you think of the fountains and gardens like those in New Orleans. However, this is nothing like here. The courtyard is dirty and there are construction materials all over the place. Other than that my accommodations are fine. I have a Murphy bed in the living room and a modern equipped kitchen. No complaints from me. It’s on the edge of the Marais and about 10 minutes walk from Notre Dame cathedral. It couldn’t be any better.
Once I got settled I headed down to see Notre Dame cathedral. On my way down, I passed the Pompidou center. I’m not sure whoever thought that look good but it just does not fit in with stately buildings and the beautiful style of the old apartments that make up this area of Paris. As I approach the river I was right in front of the Hotel de Ville, which is more commonly known as the City Hall. It’s a majestic and beautiful building overlooking the river. However, I couldn’t believe the fact that they put this big sandbox in front of it so that they could have volleyball matches in the evening. People were laying there and their bathing suits sunning themselves as if it was the beach.
Then I saw the cathedral, I was amazed how good it looked from the front. The façade was clean and bright but you could see behind it that something was wrong. There was an ugly construction wall around it and you were not able to use the area in front of the cathedral. Across the street it was crowded with onlookers and families were there still enjoying the beautiful weather. Street musicians filled the air with beautiful music and many people were sitting along the river for relief of the heat.
I walked around a little but I have to say at this point I was pretty tired. I walked back to my apartment and slept for the night. Paris is such a beautiful city and it’s restful to be here.
